A Case of Hairy Cell Leukemia Associated with Hepatitis B Surface (HBs) Antigenemia and Concurrent Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Seropositivity

Literature review shows that hepatitis C infection may increase the risk of non-hodgkin lymphoma. Reactivation of hepatitis B infection has been reported in patients with hairy cell leukemia after chemotherapy and/or splenectomy. We present hepatitis B surface (HBs) antigenemia and concurrent hepatitis C virus (HCV) seropositivity in a case of hairy cell leukemia. Key Words: Hairy cell leukemi...

Pathogenetic Mechanisms of Hepatitis C Virus-Induced B-Cell Lymphomagenesis

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is probably the most common chronic viral infection and affects an estimated 180 million people worldwide, accounting for 3% of the global population. Although the liver is considered to be the primary target, extrahepatic manifestations are well recognized among patients with chronic HCV infection. Epidemiological studies have clearly demonstrated a correlatio...

Expansion of functionally anergic CD21-/low marginal zone-like B cell clones in hepatitis C virus infection-related autoimmunity.

Homeostasis of peripheral B cell subsets is disturbed during chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, leading to the occurrence of autoimmunity and B cell lymphoproliferation. However, mechanisms by which HCV causes lymphoproliferation remain controversial. We report in this article on the elevated number of clonal CD21(-/low)IgM(+)CD27(+) marginal zone (MZ)-like B cells, which correlates wit...

Chronic hepatitis causes skin disorders both directl...
